Oh, robots, how I love thee so. Well, maybe not this robot so much, he does seem to be in the middle of some pretty fierce destruction. He does definitely look awesome, though, I have to admit. The blue smoke coming out of him and in the background definitely does imply a wake of stuff being blown up, though. The poor thing in front of him running for dear life doesn’t have a chance. I think this is a robot that is made from recycled parts? That or a robot that recycles things? Or maybe it recycles itself? I’m not entirely sure, but I like robots, and I like schematic type diagrams, and this looked cool. I don’t always have to know the why behind it all, right? (Available at Design By Humans)
Oh, how I love robots on t-shirts. I’m not sure how this one fits into the standard robot shirt fare, since said robot is torching this picturesque cottage scene (with a fantastic painted country scene look to it!), but I still love it. I particularly enjoy how much the robot seems to love his torch job, and how the subtle flames in the back imply that this is not the first cute little cottage he has visited this day. As any frequent reader will know, I love glow in the dark and UV ink more than I should. This shirt features a gorgeous rainbow of UV ink that’s extremely hard to resist. Mr. Roboto walks around town (in disguise! fantastic mustache and hat!) with his tourist camera that shoots out the aforementioned UV ink rainbow in sunlight. Awesome! (Available at Threadless)
I feel like I’ve posted this one before, but I can’t find it. I think I just remember the big Iron Giant-looking robot terrorizing a city, but thinking about it, that’s a surprisingly common image on some of the shirts. I wonder if it’s me picking them out, or if t-shirt designers have a thing for the Iron Giant? Whichever the case, I like the “apocalypse is happening!” scene on this shirt. Also amusing: the baby sizes are almost sold out. There are some strange parents out there. (Available at Threadless)
Gotta love robots. These poor robots seem to be of the variety that can’t smile – I’m not sure that’s true across the board – but they do look pretty awesome. Afro robot, old timey robot, pirate robot, clown robot, graduate robot, etc. Good stuff! (Available at Design By Humans)
Well, this is a reprint, and normally I would just add in an edit to the original post to point out that it’s been reprinted. However, I happen to be wearing this shirt today, and it’s one of my favorites (people always ask for an explanation, and the Paul Revere “twenty if by giant robot” explanation is fantastic). So, here it is again. Enjoy! (Available at Threadless)
I will once again quote the designer:
The American Civil War battle of the Merrimack vs. the Monitor was the first battle in the world between two armored ships, and as a kid I thought it was so cool that these two indestructible ships were pounding away at each other for hours, but neither one could even make a dent.
In this design, the two rivals must put aside their differences in the face of an even greater danger. It’s kind of like Godzilla and King Kong teaming up to fight off a comet…
This is part 2 of a trilogy of American history designs featuring “what if?” scenarios with giant robots. the first one was Twenty if by Giant Robot.
What more can I add to that? I own the previous shirt in his series, I feel like I must get this, and the third is almost a given at this point. It looks like the steel battleships are doing pretty good against the giant robot, really. They have one hand tentacle thing blown off and smoking, and they’re in good position for the fight (I think?). (Available at Threadless)
Lonely robot indeed! I can’t say I’ve thought too hard about robot sex, but that’s probably because I’m not a lonely robot. I’ll leave the dirty mind part of this unspoken. Hilarious shirt about the filthy mind of a robot with a few too many spare megahertz to ponder what’s missing in his or her life (I’m not sure if this is the nut or the bolt). (Available at Threadless)
Such are the problems with having a shirt collection that is already much too large. Things like this come along and I have to decide (based on an earlier deal with myself) what shirt I would willingly get rid of to purchase this. Either way, this one is fantastic, and I can’t imagine that I’m the only one who likes the idea of Paul Revere notifying the colonists that the British are coming and attacking via giant robot. I’m not sure that twenty lanterns in the Old North Church would have been enough notice to fortify against robot attack, but I know the battles of Lexington and Concord would have likely been much different. I might be an Englishman right now, but hey, if the Brits came up with a huge combat robot in the 1700s, they deserve to win, right? (Available at Threadless)
