Robot shirt! Giant robot, in fact. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that this giant robot standing over a night forest bears a striking resemblance to The Iron Giant – there’s no reason not to pay homage to an amazing amazing movie, right? Aah! I almost missed a glow in the dark shirt, which as has been established in the past, are my favorites. The nice image of a dilapidated run down drive in theater on this shirt is transformed into a glow in the dark double feature of the past when the lights go out. Really awesome way to use the glowy ink, as the ghosts of a forgotten age when people used drive in theaters come to life in the dark (as ghosts are wont to do, I suppose). (Available at Threadless)
Zombies! Oh, I do love me some zombie shirts, as I think you might already know. Is there a more classic depiction of zombies than the zombie arms crashing through a previously boarded up window? I mean, I know we have to be hasty when we make our stand after the zombie infection spreads, or the living dead rise from their graves, or we reach the bar after acting/wandering our way through the masses, or however this whole thing happens. But really, wood boards? These zombies, if they are of the typical zombie archetype, will think nothing (get it?) of banging away at that 2×4 until it breaks open. And really, after settling down, what else is there to do but further reinforce your shelter? Look, I’m not a zombie expert by any means, but I’m pretty sure if I get taken down by the living dead, it’s not going to be because I only did an average job at clamping down the entrances to my bunker, that’s all. Both “unicorn for breakfast” and “rainbow blood” sound like band names or movies or something. Maybe alternative indie comic books? Either way, the quite obviously fierce lion on this shirt has been munching on the most heavenly of treats – pure unicorn. I didn’t realise unicorns fell under the purview of the forest – the forest that said lions are the kings of. But a king is a king, and it’s good to be the king. I can’t say I think a city is the best place for a giant gorilla to hang out. I’ve seen evidence that such practices don’t end well. It’s the sort of thing a mama and papa giant gorilla should teach a baby giant gorilla (yes, I said a baby giant gorilla, stay with me now) is best avoided. Nonetheless, on a hot summer day, I suppose there are some advantages, as we see on this shirt. For the ape that is, the helicopter pilot (and said helicopter pilot’s loved ones) probably feel differently – but this is a funny shirt, ethics and point of view don’t really come into play. Wow, the Dorothy on this shirt isn’t quite the same Dorothy Gale from the movie or the books, is she? Pretty fierce, cutting up her old friend the Cowardly Lion like that – in the end, it seems like he had a reason to be scared after all, didn’t he? I also see some wrist bands that look pretty similar to how the wrists of a man made out of tin might look..

3D! Sort of. The faux 3D on this shirt isn’t quite the same as the 3D you can seem in some recent blockbusters, but I believe that’s kind of the point. While I can’t complain when the things on the screen jump out at me, part of me does think fondly back to the days of red and blue glasses, when the 3D really did look like crap. Not to mention, as I wear glasses, it’s always slightly uncomfortable and I feel like I’m getting less of an experience than many. I should probably wear contacts to these things, I guess. Evil Care Bears! With spray paint, stars that appear to be for more harm than love, mohawks, tattoos, sunglasses, and a menacing pose with a baseball bat, the Care Bears on this shirt are not to be trifled with. I’m pretty sure these not-so-lovable bears would tear right through Care-a-lot, and I don’t even want to know what terror their Care Bear Stare would produce. The men of Reservoir Dogs. Or the dogs of reservoir dogs? I don’t know where the designer of this shirt came up with which Reservoir Dog would be which breed, but it turns out that Mr. Orange is a poodle, Mr. Pink is a bulldog, Mr. Blue is a chihuahua, Mr. White is a dalmatian .. wait, where is Mr. Black? I wouldn’t have chosen the ice creamator for this one, myself. Given that it looks so much like a proton pack, I would have gone with a Ghostbusters reference over the Terminator one, but to each his own. It’s an awesome looking ice cream factory, bringing back memories of the ice cream truck, and old Dr. Seuss-ian structures. Who you gonna call? This is my second Ghostbusters shirt post of the day, which always makes for a good day. This time it’s also a Lost reference (thus all of the flashback t-shirt posts, right?), which makes it twice as nice. Here some figure, wearing a Dharma Initiative logo where his Ghost Busters logo would be, sucks up the smoke monster into his backpack, about ready to jump back into the Dharma van to presumably the Hatch or some other island location. Old school steampunk type Ghostbusters? Yes, please. Wooden proton accelerators, a ghost trap that looks like it was made from an old phonograph with a giant horn on it, and old timey mustaches and glasses. Glow in the dark ink shirt! Tron shirt! Do I really have to say more? I mean, I will, but I don’t think I have to. The light cycle of course references Tron, and the shirt depicts the 80s-cyber inside the computer outfits of said Disney movie. Shut the lights off, and you’ll feel like you’re inside a computer! He’s the king! The circle of music and all that. You’ve got to love The Lion King references (or, at least I do), and Elvis is the king, after all. The classic image on this shirt of Rafiki raising the new king with Elvis in the royal position is pretty hilarious, especially so given the childlike scale of Elvis. (Available at Threadless)
I think Audrey Hepburn would make a pretty intimidating zombie – can the undead be pretty, in a missing some flesh kind of way? This shirt’s depiction of such a monster is pretty scary and pretty sweet all at the same time. My kind of shirt. Plus, a zombie treatment of Breakfast at Tiffany’s – how can I resist? I feel like I’ve posted this one before, but I can’t find it. I think I just remember the big Iron Giant-looking robot terrorizing a city, but thinking about it, that’s a surprisingly common image on some of the shirts. I wonder if it’s me picking them out, or if t-shirt designers have a thing for the Iron Giant? Whichever the case, I like the “apocalypse is happening!” scene on this shirt. Oh, Velma. Somehow you became a crazy emo survivalist in a post-apocalyptic world with Scooby as your only companion. Or at least that’s what the shirt leads us to believe will happen. As can be seen on the van, Shaggy, Fred, and Daphne have taken a bad one, and Scooby looks to have adapted to his environment. Clinging onto a monster hand like a bone looking all fierce like and such (to be fair, there is still some bone on the arm). All in all, awesome t-shirt. (Available at Threadless)
